In a rare sit-down interview the princess got candid about King Charles’ plan to cut the number of working royals | YouMagazine

Princess Anne gave a rare sit-down interview in which she cautioned against reducing the number of working royals.

He reportedly wants fewer members of the extended royal family living in palaces at taxpayers' expense and wants to create a more modern and streamlined institution. “The King and Prince of Wales are aligned that the institution needs to be more self-aware now than ever in its history and such comments could be considered as an act of self-harm,” a royal insider says.

“Anne has always worked hard but she probably feels there is too much of a burden on William and Kate. We have got a slimmed-down monarchy by default, but you can go too far. There is a danger that they become short of numbers. Anne is in her seventies, as are the king and queen, and the likes of the Kents and Gloucesters are close to retiring,” royal expert Phil Dampier says.

The princess also said she isn't worried about the future of the royal family because she “believes there is genuine benefit from the constitutional monarchy and it has good long-term benefits [that provides stability] and that commitment long-term is what the monarchy stands for”. Besides talking about the monarchy and its relevance, the princess also spoke about her late parents, Queen Elizabeth and Prince Phillip.
