The Duke of Cambridge arrived in Dubai on Thursday after his visit was requested by the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office. This trip also coincides with the 50th anniversary of the UAE and U.K. National Day. According to William's office at Kensington Palace, the prince's visit to the country is meant to underscore the close relationship between the two countries and the UK's hopes to make that connection even stronger moving forward.
Upon landing, William's first stop of the day was the Jubail Mangrove Park, a nature sanctuary and education center for animals native to Abu Dhabi. Once there, he was accompanied by the team at DP World, a government-owned cargo logistics company working with United for Wildlife, an initiative launched by the royal, to combat the illegal wildlife trade.
The Duke then stopped by Expo 2020 Dubai to see the UK's National Day display at the event and participate in some of the festivities, such as the Birmingham 2022 Queen's Baton Relay which was founded byfrom Buckingham Palace in October 2021. During the rest of his trip, William will also learn more about the country's environmental conservation initiatives, like providing protected areas for the region's rare flora and fauna.
