Police and the B.C. Coroner’s Service say the suspicious death was not the result of homicide

Prince George RCMP were investigating a suspicious death last week after a decomposed body was found at a campsite in a wooded area near the downtown core, but are now stating the death was not the result of a homicide.

“Our Serious Crime Unit has concluded their part of the investigation and have turned it over to the B.C. Coroners Service, who will maintain their own investigation,” states Cpl. Jennifer Cooper, Media Relations Officer for the Prince George RCMP. “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the victim.”

Police were called to the scene at about 2 p.m. on Friday, June 9, after receiving a report of a body found in the 2000 block of First Avenue in a secluded area below a residential neighbourhood close to Carney Street. “The body was found in an advanced stage of decomposition, having been exposed to the elements for a number of days," said Prince George RCMP media relations officer Cpl. Jennifer Cooper.A large area surrounding the campsite was cordoned off while police conducted their investigation.
