Prince Edward County approves purchase offer on former Queen Elizabeth School
The purchase of the former Queen Elizabeth school in Picton has been officially approved by Prince Edward County.
During the regular council meeting on Tuesday, council approved the purchase of the property from the Hastings Prince Edward District School Board for $1,375,000. The offer, if accepted by the school board, will result in the entire 4.76 acre property being transferred to the municipal government for use in anMayor Steve Ferguson said that he was pleased that the four year effort to purchase the property is coming to a close.
“So it has been a very long process and I’m glad that it is effectively concluded,” Said Mayor Ferguson. “There will be affordable, attainable housing. There will be social services available. The importance to the community, I think is is really profound.” The next steps after approval will involve working with the Prince Edward County Affordable Housing Corporation on a plan for converting the property into the desired units of housing.
