Prince Edward County approves pound keeper to deal with loose livestock

Prince Edward County council has decided on Tuesday to appoint a pound keeper to assist in dealing with loose trespassing livestock in the county.

The motion and bylaw was proposed by Councilor Bill Roberts, who was pleased that the council had reached a working solution. “I think when this feral cattle saga began it, struck me that it had more loose ends than a Don King haircut,” said Councillor Roberts. “I’m pleased that we’ve agreed on a pretty practical remedy and it’s really focused on preserving public safety and respect for property.”

Under the new bylaw, the pound keeper can be called to the scene where loose animals are trespassing on another property or running loose. The pound keeper will then capture the animals and hold them safely until they are returned to the owner. The owner of the animals will be charged a fine when this occurs.
