Preview: Female solo shows reveal personal truths about men, women, marriage and dating yyc yycarts
With almost 40 years on her theatre resume, Alex Dallas easily lays claim to being a veteran performer. She began fringing in 1982 at the Edinburgh Fringe doing what she calls storytelling theatre. In 1992, she and two other women immigrated to Toronto and formed a group called Sensible Footwear.
“We updated it from the 1700s to contemporary times and called it StarBach’s: The Coffee Contata. Our shows sold out at the Winnipeg Fringe. Then I produced The Telephone and it was met with equal excitement but I still couldn’t travel the fringe circuit because I had two small children.” Forman says this is a play she can do for a long time because she is playing a woman her age. “This is a new start for me. I did Before Breakfast in Winnipeg and Calgary this year and am looking forward to doing it next year in Vancouver and Edmonton and my dream is to be able to take it to the Dublin and Edinburgh fringes.
