Lhuan-dre Pretorius's explosive 83 not out steered the Paarl Royals to a convincing six-wicket victory against MI Cape Town in the SA20.
Lhuan-dre Pretorius continued his exceptional start to his SA20 career with a blistering 83-run knock from 52 balls, propelling the Paarl Royals to a dominant six-wicket victory against Cape rivals MI Cape Town at Boland Park in Paarl on Wednesday evening. MI Cape Town posted a challenging 158-4, but Pretorius's onslaught, laced with eight fours and three sixes, rendered the target seemingly effortless.
While other batters struggled to find boundaries on the notoriously slow and challenging pitch, Pretorius shone brightly, overshadowing contributions from Joe Root (15), Mitchell van Buuren (22), and captain David Miller (24*).Rassie van der Dussen's magnificent 91 not out almost single-handedly propelled MI Cape Town's total. His measured and composed innings, initially scoring at a little over a run-a-ball, transformed dramatically in the final overs. Van der Dussen unleashed a flurry of boundaries, culminating in a 20-run over against Kwena Maphaka, elevating the score from 'par' to 'challenging.' Despite his power-hitting prowess, MI Cape Town's initial cautious approach from their other batsmen might have left them a dozen runs short. Two direct-hit run outs from Rashid Khan and Connor Esterhuizen accounted for Pretorius and Dinesh Karthik (10), but the victory was already secure, leaving an undeniable mark on the match.Earlier, MI Cape Town's innings started with Azmatullah Omarzai (13), who edged Dayyaan Galiem to wicketkeeper Karthik for a fine one-handed catch. Van der Dussen then added 59 runs with Reeza Hendricks (30) before Mujeeb-ur-Rahman dismissed Hendricks with a stunning carrom ball. George Linde's promotion to No. 4 yielded little success as he was bowled by Joe Root for 10. Dewald Brevis, batting at No. 5 after featuring at No. 7 in the previous derby, was quickly dismissed for eight by Mujeeb's carrom ball. Dunith Wellalage, on his Royals debut, was impressive with 4-0-17-0, while Mujeeb-ur-Rahman was the pick of the bowlers, claiming 2-27 from his four overs
