Prescot Cables' director Richard Tigwell told the ECHO the promotion should make the club a 'focal point for the town'
A fan-owned football club hopes its recent promotion puts it "front and centre" in a town continuing to unlock its potential.
The 41-year-old dad-of-two told the ECHO: "This is massive for the town. Prescot in the past might not have had a lot to shout about, but this promotion should do wonders for us. The club hasn't been forgotten, but perhaps in the past the club and the town did not work in symmetry with each other. Founded 140 years ago - six years after the inception of Everton FC and eight years before Liverpool FC - Prescot Cables is steeped in history. The club's Joseph Russell Stadium is situated close to the town centre and just over half a mile from its train station, placing it at the heart of the community.
But for Richard, this makes their promotion even sweeter - and means that every volunteer who has given their time for the club should share in the club's success. Speaking to the ECHO two days after the club's promotion, he said: "I'm still coming down from Saturday. "Every fan has played a part. I might be the director, but I'm a fan first. This promotion is for everyone associated with the club. It's not just about the 11 players on the pitch, or the 16 or 17 in the matchday squad. It's for every volunteer who gives up their time. Vera is 84 and she has been serving the teas for as long as I can remember.
