Premier Andrew Furey expects to be back in the province tomorrow as officials continue to assess the devastating effects of Hurricane Fiona on the southwest coast.Furey has been following the situation closely and says the images coming from the southwest coast are heartwrenching. He says the plan is to visit a number of areas impacted such as Burnt Islands and Isle aux Mort to meet with those affected by Fiona.
Premier Furey says he’s been in contact with Port aux Basques mayor Brian Button and other officials including Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. The premier says they haven’t called the Canadian Armed Forces in yet, but they are on standby as the damage continues to be assessed.
