Canucks\u0027 3\u002D1 lead in first should have been a win
Predators goalie Juuse Saros gave up goals on two of the Canucks’ first three shots of the game: Ilya Mikheyev scoring on a wrist shot off the rush, a fabulous transition play sprung by steady neutral zone play from Luke Schenn and Quinn Hughes, then J.T. Miller was able to push a rebound through Saros after Bo Horvat had forced a turnover off Nashville defenceman Jordan Gross.
The Canucks added a power-play goal by Andrei Kuzmenko before the end of the period. Going 3-0 into the first intermission should be confidence building. Multiple times he faced a barrage of shots as the Predators continued to struggle defensively.And the Predators took their chances.
And then Nashville struck twice early in the period, first Gross threading another point shot through, a goal no doubt Thatcher Demko wanted back, then Nino Neiderreiter banged in a rebound after a defensive gaffe by Riley Stillman. The game was 3-3 and the fans were nervous all of a sudden. They’d been handily enjoying the affair to that point.
