Betsy DeVos may be one of the most hated members of Donald Trump’s Cabinet, but away from the critics and protesters she's being deployed like a rock star at Trump events
As she does in many public events, DeVos has largely stuck to the script during campaign events.
She also touted what her Education Department is doing, highlighting religious freedom and free speech issues on college campuses, as well as her overhaul of Title IX campus sexual assault rules. DeVos will personally finance a scholarship for a Philadelphia fourth grader featured during Trump’s speech, a department official confirmed Wednesday.
“If you were the Democratic Party and you wanted to plant a seed, send out telepathic waves, for the opposition to do the most foolish thing they could possibly do, you would say, ‘Use Betsy DeVos as your surrogate, send Betsy DeVos out there,’” she said. Rep. Carolyn Maloney, the chairwoman of the House oversight committee, accused DeVos of shirking her responsibilities andif she didn’t voluntarily agree to testify before the panel about multiple issues.
