The ECHO joined hundreds of people on the walk filled with dancing, music, art and history

They spoke about how education can play an important role in transforming people's mindsets and allowing people to"right the wrongs of history". Liverpool was at the centre of what Ms Elliott described as a"heinous triangle of slave trade", where human lives were traded for goods.

Mr Lynch said today"was not just a day, this is our whole life". He spoke passionately about how Slavery Remembrance Day is important in the ongoing fight against racism and inequality, but added:"Today is not a protest. This is a remembrance. An act of healing, a very positive act. You are all very welcome here."

The final part of the walk saw everyone move onto Canning Dock for the Libation ceremony - a commemorative ritual to honour and remember the ancestors before us. The crowd threw flowers and alcohol into the Mersey with cries of"for our ancestors, long may they rest".- of all races, genders, sexualities and religions - on the walk through the city centre. The ECHO has pulled together some of the best photos taken by our photographer Colin Lane.
