A project by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers would cause closures from Beach 92nd to Beach 116th Street for much of the summer.
New York City is threatening to close part of a popular stretch of Rockaway Beach this summer so the Army Corps of Engineers can continue work on a project to protect the shoreline from erosion. But the possible closures have some local businesses and neighbors fed up.The summer season at Rockaway Beach in X is just around the corner, but it may be cut short this year.
"The current plan was weekdays from Memorial Day to the end of July, which is really basically saying the entire beach season," said New York City Council member Joann Ariola. "And that's not something we can afford."
