The Porter County Board of Health unanimously voted Tuesday evening to approve the preliminary health department budget for 2024.
The Porter County Auditor requested the board submit a preliminary budget for next year by the end of June. The approved budget could, however, be void if the Board of Commissioners vote to accept expanded public health funding under Indiana Senate Bill 4.SB 4 was signed into law by Gov. Eric Holcomb in May and is intended to combat Indiana’s low rank with regard to public health funding compared to the rest of the country.
The rest of the short board meeting at the Porter County Administration Building in Valparaiso was spent discussing the post of health department administrator Sheila Paul, who will be stepping down from her position to join the Indiana Department of Health. Carrie Gschwind, the department’s food program director, has been appointed as the interim health department administrator. She will need to be approved by the board. Whether or not to approve Gschwind will be on the agenda for the board’s next meeting in August.Jun 21, 2023 at 11:41 am
