The venue has had multiple names and transformations over the years
A popular pub in Nottingham city centre appears to have been closed for refurbishment. Spankies, located in Goldsmith Street, has been subject to multiple renovations, owners, and name changes since 2017.
Spanky Van Dyke's was the first bar to be housed in the building just off Nottingham Trent University's City Campus, but sadly closed its doors for good on New Year's Eve in 2018. The venue was taken over by another bar nine months later in September 2018. Albert's - named after Albert Einstein, who visited the University of Nottingham in 1930 - was one of the many hospitality venues that were defeated by the pandemic and lockdown that took over the world in 2020. In March 2021, the current Spankies sign went up, seeming as an ode to its predecessor, Spanky Van Dyke's.
It is unclear how long the refurbishment will take and whether Spankies will change names again. Spankies has been approached for comment.
