from the living-room sofa, as Ken Bruce’s long-standing music trivia quiz made its TV debut on Monday evening.

On a strikingly colourful set, Bruce once again challenged contestants to recall chart-topping facts, this time across a new hour-long slot at 8pm onhe copyrighted the show’s format before his shock move from BBC Radio 2 to Greatest Hits RadioThere are now five contestants – instead of the radio version’s two – who appear standing side-by-side behind a desk replete with individual buzzers.

There were familiar rounds, such as Beat the Intro and Three in 10, alongside newer ones that took full advantage of the visuals, among them Video Gaga, in which the quizzers had to guess the artist from the stills of a video. In the first of four weekday heats, Kimmie, Phil, Davie, Andy and Lisa battled for a place in Friday’s Grand Final.

The show’s long-standing devotees largely embraced the new format, though some questioned whether it justified its hour-long running time.
