The Police and Prisons Civil Rights Union (Popcru) has confirmed its members will be taking to the streets in two weeks' time over what it says are unrealistic working conditions. Pretoria

The union's Richard Mamabolo says among their grievances is the diminishing numbers in the police force.

"We have got a staff compliment that has been declining. The SAPS staff compliment has been at 190 000 and is currently standing at 155 000.""You have the Minister of Finance cutting the SAPS budget for R11.9 billion with another cut is expected to happen next year of R11.5 billion. It's had a negative impact on the functionality of the SAPS."
