Pop Wunderkind CarlieHanson shares SummerOfPride mix & talks coming out, TaylorSwift13 co-sign
Carlie Hanson is laying on her balcony at her apartment in Studio City, and she’s ready to “ride thetrain, baby.” With a wry wit, endearing rasp and touch of Midwestern kindness, it’s no wonder the alt-pop singer-songwriter has penetrated the mainstream in just a few short years. In 2017, she left her home town of Onalaska, Wisconsin -- and gig working at a local McDonalds -- for the Hollywood Hills, where she has steadily executed her pop takeover.
For the set’s first song, she went with the title track from former tour mate Sivan's most recent LP -- 2018's. “Obviously, to go off of if these artists inspired me at all, Troye is probably one of the biggest inspirations I’ve had, whether it’s dealing with talking about my sexuality, or whatever,” she says. “Even when I went on tour with him, watching him every night, he’s so free and so himself and I just love that.
Hanson features another past tourmate Yungblud on the set -- “he is such a supporter of the LGBTQ community and he was such a great influence to be around,” she says -- and her "new favorite" artist Kodie Shane . “She’s so free with what she sings about, and it’s such easy listening,” she says. “All of these artists are just so themselves and they’re own individuals. I love her so much.
