In an emailed statement on Friday, UCP director of communications Dave Prisco pointed to the potential this project may have on Calgary and the scope of the funding.
NDP Leader Rachel Notley has not committed to the deal, saying she has not been privy to many of its details. Among UCP supporters, 54 per cent were in favour while 35 per cent were opposed; 27 per cent of NDP supporters gave the deal a thumbs up while 63 per cent were opposed. Andrew Enns, executive vice-president with Leger, said this is often an emotional issue for the public, especially when dealing with the fate of their local NHL team.
