Labour and the Conservatives trade blows over Sir Keir Starmer's plans to tackle migration and people trafficking gangs.
In January this year, Rishi Sunak made five pledges for voters to judge him on.
The prime minister insisted there is"enormous alignment and consensus" among stakeholders and the government, and plans are being prepared"earlier than ever before before". It comes after The Guardian newspaper said Mr Sunak blocked plans by the Department for Health to rebuild five hospitals with unsafe concrete during his time as chancellor.
The prime minister says his government takes the issue"very seriously" and public sector departments are taking surveys and working to mitigate the issue"in line with technical guidance".Rishi Sunak has hit back at Sir Keir Starmer's assertion that the government has"lost control of the borders" and claimed the Labour leader's plan would see the UK accepting 100,000 migrants from the EU every year.
He said Sir Keir's proposal to agree a deal with the EU could see the UK accepting up to 100,000 migrants each year, which"doesn’t seem like a credible plan to me to stop the boats".Mr Sunak went on to say the government is"getting on and delivering".Starmer accuses Tories of 'pumping out nonsense' in criticism of Labour's migration plans
He said the"only way to do that is to smash the gangs that are running this vile trade," and he has been speaking to Europol today about getting a"closer agreement" to tackle it.
