Tributes are coming for former Newcastle Mayor Marie Hubbard. Hubbard held the top job from 1988 to 1992. Clarington officials announced her death Tuesday.
In 1975, Hubbard was appointed chairperson of the Visual Arts Advisory Committee, which garnered public support for Clarington’s Visual Arts Center.Hubbard was first elected as a local councillor in 1980 and as a regional councillor in 1982.
In 1997, following her mayoral tenure, she was appointed to the Ontario Municipal Tribunal . She was made interim chair in 2003. When the OMB became the Local Planning Appeal Tribunal in 2019, she was made interim associate chairperson.“Marie spent many years improving communities through her service at the municipal and provincial levels,” he said.
