He said he withdrew from the scene and called for help before re-entering the apartment and finding a naked and seriously injured man in a bathtub who turned out to be Berry. McCullough asked Ulanowski whether he was aware that Oak Bay police Deputy Chief Ray Bernoties had given a statement to the media just hours after the victims were discovered to the effect that the public had nothing to worry about.
“If you’re dealing with a victim, Mr. Berry is the victim, there would be a lot for the police in Oak Bay to be worried about, fair?” said McCullough.“That’s because that would mean that someone slashed his throat and killed those two children, right?” said McCullough.
