Tommy Wayne Boyd escaped from Mercy Hospital South early Thursday.
A convicted child sex offender who was receiving medical treatment at Mercy Hospital South in St. Louis County managed to escape custody early Thursday morning, theStudents at local schools were being kept inside for recess and physical education classes Thursday and police told thethat authorities are"not clear yet" on how Tommy Wayne Boyd, 45, escaped but he was last seen walking away from the hospital by surveillance cameras at 4 a.m.
Police weren't told of Boyd's escape until he'd been missing for nearly 30 minutes—he is described as a 5-foot-7, 154-pound white man last seen wearing a black sweatshirt, black jacket and orange slippers.request for comment Thursday.Boyd pled guilty to first-degree statutory sodomy in Missouri in 1996 and was sentenced to 10 years in prison. In 2007, a jury convicted him of felony enticement of a child and he was sentenced to 30 years at the Potosi Correctional Center.
