Police in Lancashire have identified areas where e-scooters are causing problems for law-abiding motorists and residents. E-scooters are currently classified as 'powered transporters' and must adhere to the same laws as motor vehicles. This means they are illegal to use on pavements, cycle lanes, and pedestrian-only areas. To be used on public roads, e-scooters would need to meet the same requirements as motor vehicles, which is practically impossible. Electric bikes with pedals, on the other hand, are legal as long as they meet DVLA rules. Instances of e-scooters being seized and involved in road traffic collisions are on the rise, leading some to believe that more action should be taken by the police.

Police have revealed the hotspots in Lancashire where e-scooters are causing chaos for law-abiding motorists and residents.

Last month residents in the Little Harwood area of Blackburn reported how e-scooters are taking over the streets. One man said the police "don't seem to be seizing them". In total, 61 e-scooters have been seized across Lancashire over the past 12 months, while their use has been involved in 16 road traffic collisions. These include the crash which caused the death of 39-year-old Andrew Hughes in Blackpool in June of this year.
