The Thunder Bay Police Service issued a news release on Friday, saying its operators have been getting more of those calls lately, while also asking people who made accidental emergency calls to remain on the line and tell an operator that the call was unintentional.
"It is critical that you stay on the line during an accidental 9-1-1 so the call taker can be made aware that there is no ongoing emergency situation," police said in a news release. "Otherwise, police resources will be used to investigate the dropped call, potentially taking valuable time away from real emergencies."
Police said the rise could be due to newer phone models, including the most recent iPhones, having easier to use emergency call functions.
