A police officer has been sacked for "turning a blind eye" to her boyfriend using cocaine for around a year before he was caught.
An independent panel, chaired by solicitor David Tyme, told the hearing the panel had found that she had taken the Class A drug herself on at least two occasions in June 2022. She had also lied to social services regarding what she knew about her boyfriend's drug habit. Mr George said there is no way Fitton would not have been aware that Brown would have been coming into "regular contact" with drug dealers during their relationship, which began around March 2021.
However, the panel agreed with the position of Merseyside Police and dismissed Fitton immediately. She will also be added to the College of Policing barred list, prohibiting her from holding any policing job in the UK. That test came back negative, but Brown continued to use drugs regularly, rather than learn a lesson from the scare.
The messages, which were found on Brown's phone by the force's Professional Standards Department , also revealed how Fitton herself used the drug.
