A Washington state man is now facing murder charges after the remains of a missing man were found in his burning car and on his property, with the suspect allegedly Googling how long it takes for a body to decompose and if fire can destroy strong odors.
The investigation into Melchert was sparked on August 20 after the mother of Khalid Al-Hassan contacted police saying she had not heard from him since July 24, which was unusual. Al-Hassan was last known to be living with Logan Melchert and Lindsey Melchert in a Hazel Dell home belonging to the Melcherts.
Melchert was arrested on several existing outstanding warrants. Investigators searched the car, whereupon they found a partial set of burned and decomposing remains that were later identified as belonging to Khalid Al-Hassan.
