The National Police Relief Association was 'a charity built on a lie,' authorities say.

The National Police Relief Association, run out of a small headquarters along the Jersey Shore, raised more than $2 million while claiming it was a charity that used “innovation and creativity to give charitable relief to law enforcement professionals and families.” Instead, authorities say, it got innovative and creative with its own books, misusing more than $200,000 on meals, personal car repairs and a trip to Disney World for its founders, while spending a fraction of that on helping cops and their families.
