Police called to school after suspected artillery shell found

Police are carrying out an investigation after a suspected artillery shell found in the grounds of a school. Students at the Nottingham High School for Girls in Arboretum are leaving the premises through a different exit as officers are dealing with the incident.

Nottinghamshire Police has been made aware of the incident shortly before 2.45pm on Monday, February 6. Officers are at the scene conducting inquiries, the force confirmed. Inspector Iain Blackstock, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “We were made aware of a suspected artillery shell found in the grounds of Nottingham High School for Girls, Balmoral Road, the Arboretum, shortly before 2.45pm today .“Our officers are currently at the scene carrying out inquiries and we are working hard to ensure everyone remains safe.

“Students are leaving the premises through a different exit and we are working together with the school as our investigation continues.” However, following an inspection police have issued an update which says following an inspection the item is "most likely a fence post".
