The vigilance by members of Gugulethu SAPS to rid their community of firearms in the hands of criminals who threaten their safety, led to the arrest of an adult male for the possession of an unlicensed firearm on Tuesday.
The members were busy with patrols in Koornhof Street, Gugulethu when they heard gunshots being discharged in the nearby vicinity. Witnesses alerted the police members about the occupants of a white Toyota Avanza that were allegedly shooting in the area. The members spotted the Avanza and gave chase.
The occupants of the vehicle jumped out and attempted to flee, but was chased on foot.
