The prestigious Canada music award is determined by a jury, this year consisting of 199 members of the music media, instructed to vote for titles based solely on artistic merit, without consideration to genre, record sales or professional affiliation. The jury is comprised of music journalists, broadcasters and music bloggers from across the country, representing all genres. Throughout the year, jurors suggest titles in a private group, where they comment and debate.
The 2019 Polaris winner will be decided behind closed doors Sept. 16 at Toronto's Carlu by an 11-member “grand jury,” who will debate each album’s merits and cast a series of private votes. The results are set to be revealed that same evening at the Polaris gala, which will be live streamed at The official eligibility period for the 2019 Polaris Music Prize titles is from June 1, 2018 to May 31, 2019.
Past winners of the Polaris Music Prize include Jeremy Dutcher , Lido Pimienta , Kaytranada , Buffy Sainte-Marie , Tanya Tagaq , Godspeed You! Black Emperor , Feist , Arcade Fire , Karkwa , Fucked Up , Caribou , Patrick Watson and Final Fantasy / Owen Pallett .
