In an apparent response to criticisms over the resumption of operations of Philippine online gaming operators (POGOs), the Association of Service Providers of Pagcor (ASPAP) on Saturday reiterated its commitment to settle their appropriate tax liabilities due the government.
“We reiterate our unequivocal commitment to settle the appropriate tax liabilities imposed by the government prior to the limited reopening of the online gaming operations,” ASPAP said in a statement issued by lawyer Margarita Gutierrez.
As government took measures to raise funds to address the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, legitimate POGOs were granted the the green light to partially resume operations, provided that they will abide by the stringent social distancing and enhanced community quarantine protocols. ACT-CIS Party-list Rep. Eric Go Yap, chairman of the House committee on appropriations, said government can earn at least P500,000 monthly to support the war against COVID-19 by allowing POGOs to resume operations.
