💬 'A rock-bottom allocation for Yorkshire and the Humber, nothing for the cities of Birmingham, Nottingham and Stoke' 🔴 The Government has been forced to defend its second round of so-called “levelling up” funding
The Government was forced to defend its second round of so-called “levelling up” funding after it was accused of not prioritising areas of deprivation.
But the scheme has been criticised for favouring the south of England over the North with the South East receiving £210m compared to £120m for Yorkshire and the Humber. Labour MPs accused the Government of using the funding for political gain rather than prioritising areas most in need of investment., Prime Minister Mr Sunak said: “If you look at the overall funding in the levelling-up funds that we’ve done, about two-thirds of all that funding has gone to the most deprived part of our country.”
