I for SURE don't look cute during these Zoom hangs.

So, with all of this in mind, I have the following request on behalf of everyone on the other end of your screen: Please stop stealthily taking screenshots of your quarantine hangs. Or, if you must take them,This might be an unpopular opinion, but all over social media—from Instagram to LinkedIn—people are displaying screenshots of their friends, family, and coworker video calls. And these photos aren’t always, well, the best.

. I can also admit it’s kind of cool that so many of us are congregating in our respective video squares. But, personally, I don’t want anyone having permanent evidence of the days when I look as chaotic as I feel. What’s more, some people are going viral for accidental video call moments that can range from mortifying to honestly pretty funny . While an Instagram story of my unwashed face isn’t a viral moment, I still think we should talk through some guidelines.

So, without further ado, I present four things to consider before taking screenshots of your loved ones—and especially before you post those photos. There are certain occasions when you might want to be able to capture candid moments on your video calls, like if you’re about to play a game or if you’re watching a friend unwrap gifts during their virtual baby shower. If that’s the case, ask at the beginning of the call whether or not it’s okay to take screenshots.

I know we can’t go to brunch anymore, and you might be wondering how your followers will get that #BrunchContent that you’ve always provided if you don’t post screenshots of your virtual meals with friends. Or maybe you just genuinely love the way your friend’s nose crinkles when she laughs, you miss her, and you want to capture it. The thing is, one person’s endearingly awful photo is just a bad picture to someone else.
