Over the weekend the pendulum had swung from official moments to the more relaxed and funny, and at the centre of it all was the Queen's family.
And the younger royals have been despatched to other parts of the United Kingdom, carrying out engagements that her and Prince Philip might have done in the past to make sure the whole country felt involved.
The way they rallied around her this weekend reminded me of the week that Prince Philip died when a number of them released messages promising to look after their mummy or granny, and for her Platinum Jubilee that's just what they've done.At 96 things she has always done in the past aren't quite so easy now, you could see that as she slowly walked out onto the balcony.
For all of the pageantry, carnival and British eccentricity of the weekend, it will be the more subtly delivered message that will have a lasting impact. A weekend where the Queen has shown us she has faith in her family and wants us to believe in them too. Always with one eye on the future, she has once again made history, marking a spectacular 70 years as Queen.
