A Plano man faces a second court hearing on Tuesday after Colombian officials charged him on Jan. 28 for the gruesome killing of a well-known female DJ,John Poulos, 35, was arrested at Panama’s Tocumen International Airport on Jan. 24 for the murder of his girlfriend Valentina Trespalacios, 23, of Colombia. Poulos, a U.S. citizen from Wisconsin who was living in Plano, was detained at the airport en route to Istanbul, Turkey.
Trespalacios, who had accumulated nearly 16,000 Instagram followers, was found stuffed inside an abandoned suitcase outside El Dorado International Airport in Bogota on Jan. 22. The suitcase was wrapped in tape and tossed into a garbage bin,Police and the Colombian prosecutor’s office have over 300 hours of security footage of Poulos and Trespalacios in the days before her murder, the Bogota publication said. Poulos denied the charges in a televised court hearing on Jan.
According to the paper, Poulos met Trespalacios on a dating app around a year ago and made frequent trips to Colombia. He works as a private investor with a US-based securities company and is reportedly married with three children. The 35-year-old reportedly claims the Medellin cartel is responsible for Trespalacios’ murder and that he fled to Panama to escape the group.. Myah Taylor covers high school football.
