Authorities are investigating after a plane crashed in Hilliard on Wednesday morning.
The Florida Highway Patrol said the plane crashed into the backyard of a home near Eastwood and Poole roads near the Hilliard Airpark around 10:30 a.m. The pilot, identified by FHP as a 69-year-old man from North Augusta, South Carolina, was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.Prior to the crash, FHP said the plane was “conducting maneuvers.” The plane then broke through branches and struck the ground just underneath the tree, FHP said.
The pilot told Nassau County Sheriff’s Office deputies and Nassau County Fire Rescue that his plane stalled, which caused the crash. NCSO said he initially refused to be treated for his minor injuries, but was later taken to the hospital. The Federal Aviation Administration, National Transportation and Safety Board and the Florida Highway Patrol are investigating, NCSO said.
