There's still time to catch flowering heather over the coming weeks
Autumn is upon us and, while it's synonymous with the colourful displays of leaves changing from their usual green to a range of yellows, oranges and reds, there is another natural spectacle you need to check out at this time of year. From late summer to early autumn, moorland is transformed with swathes of purple and pink as heather comes into bloom.
Forest of Bowland Despite its name, the Forest of Bowland isn’t actually a forest and is in fact made up of vast areas of moorland. A designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, it's a beautiful location at any time of the year, but during August and early September the Bowland moors burst into colour with a carpet of heather.
Blackpool Bridge Instagram On the far side of the Peak District is the scenic spot of Blackpool Bridge. Located a stone’s throw away from Digley reservoir, it's surrounded by purple flowers at this time of year.
