South African football manager Pitso Mosimane has left Iranian club Esteghlal FC citing unpaid salaries as the reason. The club has failed to address the issue despite multiple attempts by Mosimane's management team.
South African football legend Pitso Mosimane has officially terminated his contract with Iranian Pro League club Esteghlal FC. Mosimane, renowned for his successful stints at Mamelodi Sundowns and Al-Ahly, cited persistent salary dispute s as the primary reason for his departure. These financial issues have also affected his technical team, comprising Maahier Davids, Musi Matlaba, Kabelo Rangoaga, and Kyle Solomon.
MT Sports Marketing & Management, Mosimane's management company, confirmed the split on Wednesday. A statement released by the company detailed the numerous attempts made to resolve the issue with Esteghlal FC, beginning with informal discussions with the former CEO last year. A formal default notice was also served on January 1st, 2025, but the club failed to address the outstanding payments. Despite extending a 15-day deadline in accordance with FIFA regulations to allow the new CEO and Board time to rectify the situation, Esteghlal FC was unable to meet their own deadlines. The statement emphasized that Mosimane and his technical team remain owed more than two months' salaries. Despite the financial turmoil, Mosimane departs with Esteghlal positioned in 11th place in the Persian Gulf Pro League standings. Under his guidance, the team has only suffered three losses in their ten league matches
