Pitso Mosimane has opened up on his shock exit from Egyptian side Al Ahly and has revealed some of his plans for the future"I left voluntarily. Of course, it was a shock to everyone at the club, but I just felt it was the time to leave. I renewed my contract last year and I thought I would stay longer but you know, every good thing comes to an end," he adds.Al Ahly surprisingly announced that Mosimane had handed in his resignation earlier this month.
"Sometimes you feel it's okay, it's done. Sometimes you [have to] take a step back – big coaches like Pep Guardiola have done that,[Carlo] Ancelotti has done that, [Zinedine] Zidane has done that, he won three Champions League but he’s not coaching now," the three-time CAF Champions League winner added.
Despite his impressive record at Al Ahly, Mosimanae also received heavy criticism throughout his tenure from the Reds’ fans andalike. Particularly after his CAF Champions League loss to Wydad in May. He says that is one of the more unpleasant parts of his job and is happy to be a free agent for now. "I’m happy to take a break. I’m happy to wake up at 11:00 and I’m happy that I’m not accountable to anybody at this point in time, I’ll get back [to coaching] when I feel like I want to go back,"
For now, Mosimane says he’s focused on the Pitso Mosimane Soccer Schools project that is set to take off later this year. The project will work hand in hand with schools to help create footballers that are academically sound and understand their role within communities, according to Mosimane.
