Orlando Pirates head coach Jose Riveiro reveals how the cancellation of their game against Royal AM due to the club's financial woes affected their planning for the Nedbank Cup match against Richards Bay.
Orlando Pirates head coach Jose Riveiro expressed his disappointment over the sudden cancellation of their scheduled match against Royal AM, stating that it disrupted the team's preparations for their upcoming Nedbank Cup encounter against Richards Bay . Earlier this week, the Premier Soccer League ( PSL ) announced the cancellation of Royal AM's upcoming games, including their fixture against Pirates and their Nedbank Cup match against Milford FC.
This decision was made due to the club's failure to provide assurances regarding their financial stability. Riveiro explained that the team had planned to remain in Durban for the entire week to accommodate both games in KwaZulu-Natal. However, the cancellation forced them to adjust their schedule once again. This season, the Pirates have already encountered scheduling disruptions, such as a postponed match against Cape Town City in Cape Town due to adverse weather conditions. Riveiro emphasized that adapting to unforeseen circumstances is a constant challenge in football, particularly in terms of planning. Despite the setback, he maintained a positive outlook, stating that the Nedbank Cup is a tournament where every match feels like a final. Pirates, the reigning champions having won the cup for the past two seasons, are set to face Richards Bay in their Nedbank Cup clash at 3 pm
