The busy health clinic, which had six permanent physicians at its main site as recently as July, now has two physicians on duty there. As a result, patients are routinely being redirected to a hospital emergency department or walk-in clinic for care because there is no space available for them. The four health workers who were fired as of the end of July had decades of cumulative experience, with positive reviews and were given little explanation for their terminations. The clinic has replaced a nurse and nurse practitioner among the four positions and plans to replace two part-time physicians with one full-time physician. Two other physicians are on leave.
“Over the past year, my team and I have been working to reshape our primary care and mental health services to promote collaboration, innovation, and integration to better serve clients. A crucial step in this process was the creation of the new Integrated healthcare portfolio, bringing together our primary healthcare providers into one team to deliver more streamlined services to meet the physical, mental, and social health care needs of our clients,” he said in a statement to this newspaper.
