Cans of pilchards in tomato sauce - including those sold under the Checkers, OK and Shoprite house brands - have been recalled. Shoprite urged its customers to return the affected 400g cans of pilchards to its stores. The producer of a number of canned pilchards brands – including those sold under the Shoprite, Checkers and OK house brands – has recalled its 400g pilchards in tomato sauce cans.

“While the bulk of the stock that may contain deficient cans have already been isolated in our factory, in retail distribution centres across the country and removed from sale in stores, it is possible that consumers may recently have purchased an affected tin.” The West Point factory is located in St Helena Bay.
