Firefighters battled the blaze for six hours, before bringing it under control.The fire which broke out near the Access Park Shopping Mall was reported around 23:30 on Wednesday. Firefighters battled for six hours to bring the blaze under control.
"A total of 10 firefighting appliances and crews from various fire stations attended to the scene where the buildings housing HDC Home Department Store, CAB Foods and AMG dealership and workshop had been affected by the fire," said City of Cape Town Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson Jermaine Carelse.
The blaze was brought under control at about 05:00 on Thursday. Firefighters remained on the scene to attend to flare-ups. A structural engineer and a fire safety inspector had been called to the scene, Carelse added.Access Park Shopping Mall manager Desiree White said the fire broke out at a neighbouring property.Supplied City of Cape TownCAB Food’s Lauren de Wet said that the damages to their store were still being evaluated and that the shop was temporarily closed.
