Some of Philips Respironics BiPAP machines have a plastic that can cause them to fail, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA)

The plastic can contaminate the machine, causing chemicals of concern to be released. If inhaled, the chemicals could lead to cancer-causing effects and side effects, such as headaches, vomiting, dizziness and nausea among others.

The plastic can also cause the machine to suddenly stop working, which can lead to serious injury or death.
