Australian Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minster Richard Marles said he discussed the joint patrols with his Filipino counterpart, Defence Secretary Carlito Galvez Jr, during his visit to Manila on Wednesday.

Mr Marles will meet Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr and Vice-President Sara Duterte on Wednesday, before travelling to Thailand later this week. Mr Marles said Australia considers the Philippines as a “very central” party to his country’s interests in the Indo-Pacific.
