Police in Philadelphia issued an arrest warrant Friday for a 19-year-old man in connection to the fatal shooting of a local journalist last week.
Authorities accused Robert Davis of gunning down 39-year-old Josh Kruger inside the journalist’s home on Oct. 2.
Philadelphia police Lt. Hamilton Marshmond said Friday at a news conference that Mr. Kruger was acquainted with Mr. Davis. The victim was “trying to help get through life,” but investigators haven’t established a motive for the slaying, Lt. Marshmond said.“Our goal is to have Mr. Davis taken into custody in a safe manner for the public, our officers and himself,” Lt. Marshmond said.
Officers responded to a report of a shooting and screams in the Point Breeze neighborhood just before 1:30 a.m. Oct. 2. Authorities found Mr. Kruger suffering from seven gunshot wounds on the sidewalk near his home. He died a short time later at a hospital.Police said video evidence and tips from the public led them to peg Mr. Davis as the prime suspect.Before his work as a freelance journalist and then as a city of Philadelphia spokesperson, Mr. Kruger had drug addiction issues that led to periods of homelessness.
