A pharmacist is pleading with the government for help after running dangerously low on antibiotics to treat Strep A.

Amo Sohal, who owns Kitsons Pharmacy in Worcester, says the spike in Strep A cases has led to soaring demand for penicillin and amoxicillin.Mr Sohal is now urging the government to get on top of the supply issue despite ministers claiming there was no shortage.‘The situation has changed a lot in the last 48 hours.A variety of drugs used to treat Strep-A at Kitsons Pharmacy

Mum-of-one Sarah Taylor, 29, said she scoured several pharmacies in Worcester for liquid penicillin for her nine-year-old son who has gone down with Strep A. Other Pharmacists continue to use Twitter to complain of shortages in access to antibiotics, including the liquid version of penicillin, which is often given to children.

However, the National Pharmacy Association has pointed to ‘blips’ in the supply chain of liquid penicillin, while the Association of Independent Multiple Pharmacies said pharmacists across the country were struggling to source all they need.
