"The water problems in this town have been going on a long time. I haven't done any cooking and some of the dishes are still not washed. I've also switched off my geyser," Westwood added. "We understand there is an ongoing labour dispute at the municipality which has resulted in workers switching off the valves and making life difficult for the people in affected areas," said Booysen.Ba-Phalaborwa Municipality manager, Lucas Pilusa, told News24 that he has been in constant communication with affected residents, ward councillors and staff at the municipality to see how they could assist.
Lepelle Water Board has to pump water from their plant to fill the reservoirs within the municipal area. Any hiccup is communicated with the WSA, then passed to the Water Service Provider.Meanwhile, De Beer said that more than 30 valves in 20 streets were opened by residents and private plumbers on Saturday as residents are now"up in arms" at not having clean-flowing water come out of the taps for days on end.
