At least 42 rebel ANC MPs are allegedly prepared to vote with opposition parties to adopt the Section 89 Phala Phala report in Parliament on Tuesday. This will set the impeachment ball rolling against President Cyril Ramaphosa. | JasonFelix

At least 42 rebel ANC MPs are allegedly prepared to vote with opposition parties to adopt the Section 89 Phala Phala report in Parliament on Tuesday. This will set the impeachment ball rolling against President Cyril Ramaphosa.

ANC rebels who are ready to defy a party instruction to vote against the adoption of the report have spoken out on Monday, justifying their intention to vote against the party's wishes by saying they were fulfilling their oversight role as Members of Parliament. Just 50% plus one vote is needed to adopt the report, meaning if all 400 MPs attend Tuesday's sitting, scheduled to start at 14.00, 201 votes are enough to adopt the report. The report, authored by former Chief Justice Sandile Ngcobo and two others, found Ramaphosa had a"prima facie" case to answer on contravening the Constitution and anti-corruption laws with his dealings at Phala Phala.Get 14 days free to read all our investigative and in-depth journalism.
